Resource Books

There are more books about writing books than any one person can possibly read, but here are a few that are on my shelves.

About Story writing in general:

* The Anatomy of Story (by John Truby) – John Truby is a story consultant in the film industry. While this book discusses his secrets for writing a compelling script, the principles he delineates are applicable to all writers.

* Story: Substance, Structure, Style and the Principles of Screenwriting (by Robert McKee) – All the content of Robert McKee’s screenwriting workshops bound in book form, this is a must have.

About specific parts of a story:

* The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writer’s Guide to Character Expression (by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi)

* The Negative Trait Thesaurus: A Writer’s Guide to Character Flaws (by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi)

* The Positive Trait Thesaurus: A Writer’s Guide to Character Attributes (by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi)

* Writer’s Guide to Character Traits, Second edition (by Linda N. Edelstein, Ph.D.)
